Dashcam/Bodycam: He Tried to Walk Away After the Chase

On April 7, 2023, Carol Stream Police Officers identified a driver who wasn’t wearing a seatbelt and initiated a traffic stop. The driver, a 37-year-old local man, who was driving on a suspended license, took off instead – racing through a residential neighborhood at high-speeds until striking a fire hydrant.

When the vehicle became disabled, the driver exited, flipped off the officers, and started walking away. After being approached, he paused and squared off with the officers before they attempted to de-escalate the situation and convince him to peacefully surrender.

These efforts failed and he again started walking away while screaming obscenities. Officers physically stopped him and placed him into custody while trying to obtain his name and the reason for the chase.

The suspect generally refused to talk about the incident, but calmed down shortly after being placed in handcuffs. Officers attempted to work with him and maintained a professional attitude throughout the incident. He was checked out by paramedics and taken to the police station for processing where he became irate again – insisting that it was unconstitutional to take a blood sample with a court order.

His blood was obtained and he was subsequently charged with aggravated fleeing & eluding over 21mph; aggravated fleeing and eluding while disregarding traffic control devices; and aggravated driving on a suspended license.

Charges are believed to be pending as of this video’s upload date.

We thank the officers of Carol Stream for the professionalism and diligence.

All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law
