Dashcam/Bodycam: Christmas Eve Pursuit in Chicago’s Englewood Neighborhood

December 24, 2022

On Christmas Eve 2022 – Chicago Police Officers, patrolling deserted streets, stopped at a red light at 59th and Halsted in the city’s Englewood neighborhood where they observed an individual exit his vehicle, walk up to a ride-share car and open fire at both the driver and passenger.

The officer riding ‘shotgun’ immediately engaged the offender with his sidearm before he fled down a snow-covered street with officers close behind. Not long after, the offender crashed the vehicle in a dead-end near an empty day care center where officers lost sight and were unable to track him.

Additional officers and detectives arrived to investigate the initial shooting, the officer-involved-shooting, and the getaway car. The investigation into the use of force is ongoing as of the release of this video, and the offender has not yet been located or identified in local media.

We offer our thanks to the officers for at least trying to keep the community safe on this snowy holiday night.

Residents with information about the incident or offenders should call Chicago Police or work with your local community groups.

All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
